Employment Bill passes

Employment Bill passes

The Employment Bill has passed its third reading on 5 December and is due to receive it’s royal assent this week. The bill is seen to be a water down version of what was orginally proposed.

A lot of the changes appear to be a roll-back to the Clark-led government. The bill is seen to be a victory for unions as they have been campaigning for greater union access along with abolishing the 90 day trial provisions since it was introduced many moons ago.

The bill will be implemented in two stages. The first stage is expected to take effect the day after royal assent and the other changes to take effect on 6 May 2019.
